I started this painting a week before 9/11/01 – when the planes hit the towers, I was in the car, on a field trip to a photography studio with my classmates. That morning, after the second plane hit the pentagon, we turned the car around, desperately trying to get out of the city [DC] and back to campus. School closed for the day and everyone went home, trying to reach their loved ones. I couldn’t go home. I was so horrified and upset, I stayed at the school studio that day and painted non stop until I couldn’t anymore. This painting was the result of that day.
