About Me
I grew up in Viet Nam with a family name called Huong, which means perfume (the good smelling kind). I migrated to the U.S. in 1990 and have to use my real name, Nguyet all the time. It means “crescent moon” and understandably, it's a freakin hard name to pronounce for non-Vietnamese speakers. I created new sounds for it, by breaking it into two syllables. This makes it easier for everyone, and mostly myself. Nguyet is pronounced “nu-way”, or the name of this website, new way. Friends also call me by Nu, Noodle, Nuggs, Nugget, Newbie, and I've also heard all the jokes (trust me, I have!). But feel free to pronouce Nguyet in Vietnamese, or ask how it's originally sounded if you ever meet me.
I am a web designer by day. While I majored in Fine Arts at UMD, I was fascinated by design as a powerful communication method and took to learn basic html on my own. Eventually, that led to Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Macromedia Dreamweaver and recently Flash and CSS. After college, I worked as a print designer, and eventually followed my passion to the web.
This is Newwaydesign v. 3.5, and also my first few attempts at laying it out entirely in CSS. I'm continuously learning how to code with web standards and I will always use this space as practice ground. So don't be surprise to see it change now and again.
By most other times, I'm a painter. My fine art portfolio is MiningNuggets.com if you are interested.
Thanks for stopping by here.
